Maggies Oxford Open Gardens Day

An exclusive day of garden visits in South Oxfordshire and West Berkshire with lunch at the Coaching Barn, Little Stoke

Thursday June 18th, 9.30am-5pm

Join us for a very special day of garden visiting and lunch, with all proceeds going to the cancer centre at Maggie’s Oxford. We have persuaded seven private, unknown gardens to open their gates for us on June 18th. From large country gardens with topiary, roses and sweeping views to smaller village gardens overflowing with flowers, we have picked a contrasting and interesting collection of gardens for you to visit. What they all have in common is the passion of their owners, who will all be on hand to tell you the stories of their own gardens.

The day starts at the Coaching Barn in Little Stoke, where we will meet for coffee at 9.30am. Here you will receive a map and descriptions of the open gardens. There are two clusters of gardens, one around Ipsden and one around Upper Basildon, and you are free to visit the gardens in your own time in whichever order you wish, returning for a delicious lunch at the Coaching Barn between 12pm and 2pm.

In addition, Rachel Siegfried of Green & Gorgeous Flower Farm (which is adjacent to the Coaching Barn) will give a brief tour of her flower fields at midday, and you are welcome to wander around the flower farm between 12pm and 2pm. She will be selling plants and seeds, and we will also have a few select stalls in the barn should you wish to do a little shopping.

Participating gardens include: Pyt House near Ashampstead, with pleached topiary, formal borders and a new wildflower meadow spreading out on the hillside above the house; Froomes House in Upper Basildon, the home of House & Garden’s garden editor Clare Foster, who has made a plant-filled cottage garden on a third of an acre; Hailey House in Ipsden with a historic garden designed by Sylvia Crowe and many fine trees; and the Piano House in Goring, a contemporary garden designed by Acres Wild for an architect-designed house.
