Green & Gorgeous

A cut flower farm near Wallingford in Oxfordshire

I have spent many an enjoyable afternoon at Green & Gorgeous flower farm, which is near where I live in Oxfordshire. I interviewed Rachel Siegfried, who set up the business in 2008, for a monthly series on cut flowers in House & Garden, with photographs by Eva Nemeth. Rachel is knowledgeable, incredibly hard-working and absolutely driven. She grows acres and acres of beautiful, flowers, runs courses, and is a master at arranging flowers too. She thinks nothing of planting 1000 tulips in a weekend, and is undeterred when a whole crop of Cafe au Lait dahlias are destroyed by a freak wind. 'We'll just chop them back and they'll re-sprout,' she says, and next time I visit they are blooming again. Her flowers are second to none in quality, and she is always looking for new, exciting varieties to try. If you're local, the garden is open every Saturday between April and October for farm gate sales - not only of cut flowers but veg, eggs and hand thrown pottery.
